I have a project for the next 9 days

Today I went and got some money, and took a trip to the office supply store and the craft store.  I picked up a set of cards to decorate and a gold Pitt pen, plus a box for my 5″x7″ cards (thumbnail file) and a Staedtler stick eraser (I was looking for PaperMate Tuff Stuff, but they didn’t have it).  I have just played with the Pitt pen and I’ve got to say that I’m really excited.  It colors over black ink flawlessly.

Now I’ve just got to figure out what to draw, right?  I’m thinking some type of blackwork or scrollwork (ha, sorry, I forgot the term “blackwork” is mostly used for embroidery) with gold highlights.  Maybe I could work some fiber into it, as well… hmm.  I know, though, that I probably shouldn’t try for charcoal — I’d have to use fixative on it, and I have no idea how these cheap papers are going to behave.

Anyhow, I’ve set that out as my top priority for the next 9-10 days.  I should get working on thumbnails…

It feels different now, you know?  I mean, working on drawing when there is no one standing over me telling me to work on my drawing.  I suppose the self-discipline is something that’s obviously new to me.  I could cook, write, draw, read, or clean.  And, I guess, I shouldn’t feel bad about drawing, even though it does seem a guilty pleasure at times.  And then I get the new pen and I’m like OMG SHINY NEW PEN.

Right.  It was very overpriced, and I paid more for it even at half-off than I would have at my usual art supply store — but I didn’t know that and didn’t look it up.  There’s about a 44% markup over the list price given at the latter store (which hardly ever sells anything at list, anyway).  I did the math.

But still.  SHINY NEW PEN.

I’ve also altered my Spring schedule so that I’ll only be going to school two days out of the week.  And right now, I’m working two days out of the week — which reminds me that I need to talk to my supervisor at the second job site.  Ah, well.

I think I’m going to go call my supervisor, then doodle…
